A stray black cat must search the big city in search for food but finds that it can be a harsh world.
City Cat is a 2018 short animated film created by Tristan Mulcahy.
City Cat was intended to be a departure from my typical happy go lucky storytelling and go for a more darker tone art piece. Unfortunately I didn't dip into it nearly enough and I feel I could've made it more abstract in its imagery.
City Cat was conceptualised a long time before I even considered making it a short film. Back in highschool I wanted to do a silhouette sculpture of a wide eyed, black cat over a bright background. This was then continued with a small painting I did later that year depicting a black cat staring into the city with a green sky.
The changing colour palette in the short film was done to convey the tone from scene to scene with green being good, red being bad, blue being sad and pink being glad. The rhyme came after the fact.
